In
keeping with today's eclectic looks, multiple
patterns are mixing it up in the same room. But,
what's the best way to mix without messing up?
Simply
start with a fabric that will serve as a springboard for your overall
color scheme. From there, all you need to do is follow a few simple rules:
- First be sure
to vary the scale of your patterns and prints, As a general rule, a
good mix will
include at least one small, one medium, and one large-scale pattern.
Keep in mind, too, that each one should be used, in some way, three
times in a room.
- Don't feel obliged
to perfectly match the colors in your various patterns. It's more important
that the colors blend, making the overall effect more eye-pleasing.
Keep in mind, that your patterns should have at least one color in common.

- Remember that
patterns don't come from fabric alone. An arrangement of flowers or
a group of collectibles can be just as important to a rooms' mix 'n'
match equation.
- In any room with
multiple patterns, make sure there's a place for the eye to rest. It's
essential to have a solid-color spot that provides a visual reprieve.
